With the victory in the team time trial of the German championships, the road bike juniors of the WIPOTEC team in Genthin (Saxony-Anhalt) managed a surprise victory that nobody had expected: The quartet consisting of Lukas Märkl, Jan Kuhn, Moritz Plambeck, and Leon Brescher left the highly favoured team from Auto Eder Bayern eleven seconds behind in a fabulous 57:50 minutes. Thus they celebrated their second victory of the season in the seventh classification race. Before the grand finale on the Bilster Berg automobile track, on 7 October, the WIPOTEC team is now in second place in the overall team time trial ranking, trailing the first place by a mere point.
"The guys were highly motivated and were aiming at a medal. But coming in first was a big surprise," said Team Manager Andreas Märkl. It was the first victory of a street quartet from Rhineland-Palatinate in the German team championship. WIPOTEC since made a commitment to support the team as a name sponsor for two more years.
